(BAYHAM TOWNSHIP, ON) – Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently on scene for an investigation involving a missing swimmer at the main beach in Port Burwell, Bayham Township, ON.Port Burwell.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. July 27, 2014 Elgin OPP, Bayham Fire and Elgin-St. Thomas Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of a missing swimmer in Port Burwell. Police have learned that a group of youths were swimming out by the pier on the main beach in Port Burwell when they came to a deeper section of the water. One male youth began to struggle and went under water and the others were having difficulty in the water. When the group made it to shore, it was discovered the one youth had not returned.
A search was conducted but was discontinued later due to weather and water conditions. The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit is engaged to assist with the search.
Missing is a 15 year old male from Malahide Township.
