(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On July 31, 2014, just before 4:00 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers, Chatham-Kent and Essex County OPP Marine Units, Chatham-Kent Fire Services (CKFS), Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the United States Coast Guard responded to a call of a missing fisherman on Lake Erie, approximately five nautical miles south of Rondeau Point.
The incident occurred when a male party reported that he and his friend, a 38 year old male from Meaford, were fishing on Lake Erie, when his friend jumped into the water and he lost sight of him. He was unable to locate his friend for approximately thirty minutes and became concerned.
As emergency workers were responding to the call, the male party contacted Police again shortly after 4:30 p.m., to report that his friend had been located safely and that they were on their way back to shore.
No injuries were reported at the time of the incident.
