(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is urging all Norfolk County residents to be extremely vigilant if they receive a call from an unknown individual attempting to collect funds for an anti-bullying program. This is a SCAM.

On Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at approximately 9:40 a.m., police responded to an address after a resident received a call from an unknown individual soliciting for anti-bullying programs.

The resident was informed by the unknown caller that they were collecting approximately $25 dollars to introduce an anti-bullying program in all Norfolk County schools and requested a credit card number. No information was provided to the unknown caller who then became aggressive and agitated. The caller then identified themselves as a police officer and demanded that the resident provide them with the credit card number.

No credit card information was provided at which time the resident immediately hung up the phone and contacted police.

The OPP is warning all Norfolk County residents that if anyone should receive a call from an unknown person collecting funds for anti-bullying programs within Norfolk County, please hang up the phone, this is a scam.

Don’t become a statistic. Fraud is a multi-billion dollar enterprise that will only stop when the scammers stop getting money, banking information or personal information. The best thing to do is to simply hang up the phone.
