OPP OFFICERS RESPOND TO DOG BITE COMPLAINT

(ORO-MEDONTE, ON) – On August 7, 2014 at around 4:00 p.m., officers from Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a dog bite complaint in the area of Whistler Place in Oro-Medonte Township.

The dog became vicious and bit a 35 year old female who attended a local hospital.

Concerned for public safety, an OPP officer discharged a firearm in an attempt to subdue the animal. The dog is believed to be wounded but escaped the area. Central Region OPP Emergency Response Team & Central Region OPP Canine Unit, were called in to assist with the investigation but were unable to locate the injured animal.

The dog is described as a medium-size golden retriever, with long, tan coloured fur. The dog was last seen on the Whistler Place, Oro-Medonte Twp.

If you encounter this dog, please call 911 immediately and do not approach it as its behaviour is described as unpredictable.
