(Champlain, ON) – Officers of the Hawkesbury OPP are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this morning on Bay Road, approximately 3 kilometers west of the Village of L’Orignal, shortly after 7:30 am.
The initial findings would suggest that a recycling truck, that was doing its routine pick up heading westbound on Bay Road, hit an elderly woman in her 80’s, who was possibly crossing the road at the time.
It is believed that the female died on impact. The coroner and Technical Traffic Collision Investigator are on route to assist the investigator, Constable Pascal Boudreau.
The road has been closed since and is expected to be closed for a few hours. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible. A detour was set up on County Road 17 between King Street and Blue Corner Road.
The matter is under investigation
