VEHICLE FAILS TO STOP FOR POLICE

(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On August 22, 2014 at approximately 12:00 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers observed a small size, beige pickup eastbound on Concession Road 8, fail to stop for the stop sign at Concession Road 8 and Wellington Road 10. Police attempted to stop the vehicle however it accelerated away east bound on Concession Road 8. Two occupants were seen in the truck.

Police continued to attempt to stop the vehicle which proceeded into the Town of Drayton. The truck passed through the downtown intersection and continued north before attempting to turn onto Wood Street. The truck struck the flag pole in the Cenotaph knocking it down, damaging the front of the pickup truck causing it to lose oil and fluids. The truck then drove out onto Wellington Street North and went south bound, back the way it came in. As the truck entered the downtown intersection attempts to stop it were discontinued in the interest of public safety.

The truck was located on Wellington Road 11 abandoned. Investigation has revealed that it had been involved in a criminal offence. The investigation into this is ongoing and police are continuing their attempts to identify the driver and passenger of the vehicle.
