(SOUTHWEST MIDDLESEX, ON) – Members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating a fatal collision involving a motor vehicle and a train.
At approximately 2:55 p.m. a car travelling southbound on Melbourne Road, and a westbound VIA train travelling on the CN tracks just north of Andrews Drive, collided.
The lone occupant of the motor vehicle, a female, was ejected, and died at the scene. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
There were no reported injuries to the 155 passengers on the train. Arrangements are being made to get them to their destinations.
The railroad crossing signal on the north side of the east/west level crossing was damaged in the collision.
The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are on scene. Melbourne Road remains closed between Glendon Drive, south to Parkhouse Drive. It is expected to be closed for some time.
This incident is still in its preliminary stages and remains under investigation.
