Friday night’s heavy rains across the region kept Elgin OPP Officers busy responding to numerous traffic hazards, flooding and alarms.
As heavy rains swept into Elgin County, officers dealt with a multitude of calls for service as a result of the extreme weather. Over the course of about 12 hours starting around 6pm on Friday September 5th, 2014 police responded to numerous traffic hazard calls as roads became flooded or washed out. Trees and power lines were reported being down across roads in several locations and with the power flickering on and off police had to deal with a number of false alarm calls as alarm systems malfunctioned.
In one instance around 9:40pm lighting struck a barn on Carter Road in the Township of Malahide. The fire caused a small amount of damage to the second storey of the barn and was extinguished by Malahide Fire Services. No one was injured in the blaze.
Despite the number of calls during the storm, police received no reports of injuries.
