OPP K.I.D.S. PROGRAM

(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be delivering the OPP K.I.D.S. Program again this school year to County schools. K.I.D.S. stands for Knowledge, Issues, Decisions, Supports and is being taught by OPP officers across the province.

The K.I.D.S. Program was developed by the OPP as a tool for officers to talk with young people about the decisions they may need to make and what supports are available to them. Officers are going face to face in classrooms with kids to share knowledge and strategies they will need when dealing with today’s issues, and to discuss the impact of their decisions.

Wellington County OPP Provincial Constable Kelly Krpan will continue to teach this program to students and focus on grade 6. With the use of videos, workbooks, and interactive games, police are talking directly with kids about youth the law, peer to peer relationships, online and social media issues, drugs and alcohol awareness and mental health awareness and the stigmas associated.

Wellington County OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Scott Lawson says” We are excited to bring this program again to the elementary schools within Wellington County. The support from our local service clubs is appreciated and we are glad to continue our partnerships in educating our youth with making healthy choices.”
