Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision which occurred on September 13th, 2014 at approximately 4:16pm on Sparta Line about 500m west of Fairview Road, Central Elgin.
A 2012 White Ford pick-up truck being operated by a 35 year old London, ON man was traveling east on Sparta Line . Following the pick-up truck was a 2008 Buell Motorcycle being operated by a 59 year old London, ON man. The pick-up came to a stop to make a left turn into a private when the driver of the motorcycle lost control and fell off the bike and then slid approximately 50m along the roadway and collided with the rear of the truck. The force of the impact trapped the driver of the motorcycle under the truck.
The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as Michael TURVEY age 59 of London, ON.
The driver of the pick-up was not injured in the collision.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators were on scene assisting with the investigation which is on-going.
A post mortem examination is currently being scheduled.
Sparta Line between Fairview Road and Stone Church Road was closed for approximately 5 hours.
