(Essa Township, ON) On the 24th of September 2014, at 4:10 p.m. emergency personnel responded to a serious two vehicle collision on the 5th Sideroad just east of the 6th Line in Essa Township.
A motorcycle travelling westbound on the 5th Sideroad struck a motor vehicle travelling eastbound, that was turning into a private driveway.
The motorcycle driver has been transported to hospital with serious injuries. The motor vehicle was carrying four occupants, two of which have been transported to hospital with minor injuries.
The Ontario Provincial Police Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit has been deployed, and the 5th Sideroad between the 6th Line and County Road 56 will remain closed for several hours pending the investigation.
Motorcyclists are more vulnerable road users because motorcycles are tougher to see than other vehicles and lack characteristics that directly contribute to occupant safety, providing virtually no protection in crash. Safe, defensive driving is paramount in reducing the number of motorcycle serious injuries on our roads and highways.
