PARRY SOUND OPP CHARGES DISTRACTED DRIVERS

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – The West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind drivers that every driver has a responsibility to direct their entire attention to driving safely. Distracted driving refers to all forms of distracted or inattentive driving, such as adjusting a vehicle’s entertainment or GPS unit or stereo, eating and drinking, using a hand-held device, self-grooming or tending to children in the backseat etc. Drivers need to remember that the true danger to public safety lies in the distraction, not the device.

On September 17, 2014 Brent PATRICK, 52 years of age from Clearview Township, was involved in a single motor vehicle collision into a train trestle in Parry Sound and was charged with Disobey sign – Section 182(2), contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On September 19, 2014 Teddy SWABY, 62 years of age from Scarbough, avoided a vehicle and drove into the ditch in McKelar Township. He was charged with Drive motor vehicle – improper licence – Section 32(1), contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On September 20, 2014 Barry STUCKEY, 50 years of age from Yorkton Saskatchewan was involved in a motor vehicle collision in Parry Sound. He was charged with U-turn – on a curve – no clear view – Section 143(a), contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On September 21, 2014 Robert HUGHES, 64 years of age from Seguin Township was involved in a motor vehicle in Parry Sound. He was charged with Start from stopped position – not in safety – Section 142, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On September 22, 2014 Dustin DUPUIS, 32 years of age from Parry Sound, was involved in a motor vehicle collision in Parry Sound. He was charged with Follow too closely – Section 158, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On September 23, 2014 Jessica VAN STAALDUINEN, 20 years of age from Peterborough, was involved in a motor vehicle collision in Seguin Township. She was charged with Careless driving – Section 130, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
