FLEEING SUSPECT COLLISION

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were conducting a RIDE check at Maple Avenue and Concession Road Eight. At approximately 11:29 p.m. on October 10th, 2014 a stolen black Chevrolet pickup truck attempted to evade the police R.I.D.E. check.

Officers activated their emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle and occupants. The suspect vehicle entered the City of Brantford where it collided with a Mercury Marquis at the intersection of Colborne Street and Gilkison Street.

The two occupants of the Mercury sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital. One occupant from the suspect vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The second occupant of the suspect vehicle fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later by the Brantford City Police Canine Team.

The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.

A parallel Criminal Investigation is underway by members of the Brant County OPP Crime Unit.
