(LAKESHORE, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a collision involving a train and a vehicle in Lakeshore.
Officers responded at 10:44 a.m., to Golfview Road in Lakeshore where a northbound Nissan Sentra was struck by an eastbound freight train. The vehicle was pushed into the east ditch on the south side of the tracks.
The OPP, Essex County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) as well as Lakeshore Fire and Rescue Service arrived on scene to assist.
The female driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The Ministry of the Environment (MOE) was contacted as the train sustained a small diesel leak. Golfview Road between Essex County Road 42 and Essex County Road 2 in Lakeshore remains closed while cleanup takes place.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
