On Wednesday, October 22, 2014 a shooting of a military member occurred on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
In Ontario, police services are mandated to operate at a higher level of readiness, and to be aware of and be prepared to respond to various public safety threats including threats of terrorism. The latest threat is more specific as it is leveled at police, military personnel and public figures such as government officials.
Police officers are vigilant in their duties and are critical in recognizing and responding to suspicious activities that may pose a risk to public safety.
The London Police Service works collaboratively with other police, community and government agencies in many respects, including terrorism, and has ongoing investigative partnerships in the Provincial Anti-terrorism Unit and with the RCMP.
At this time, no imminent threat to public safety in London, Ontario has been detected. However, citizens should always remain vigilant when it comes to their personal safety. As with other similar situations, concerned citizens should contact their local police service and provide information about activities or behaviours that they may find concerning or suspicious.
