SERIOUS COLLISION IN MAPLETON TOWNSHIP – THREE PEOPLE SENT TO HOSPITAL

(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On October 26, 2014 at approximately 11:23 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a serious motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of the Concession 8 and Side Road 15, Mapleton Township. Further information was received that a hydro pole was struck and wires were on the roadway.

Wellington County OPP officers responded along with Mapleton Fire/Rescue, Guelph/Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Hydro One.

Investigation revealed that a 2001 Audi travelling west bound on the Concession 8 collided with a 2008 Toyota that was travelling north bound on Side Road 15. Both vehicles left the roadway and the Audi struck a hydro pole.

The 17 year old male driver of the Audi, from North Perth, was transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to a Toronto hospital with life threatening injuries.

The 18 year old female driver of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the passenger in her vehicle, a 15 year old male was transported to a local hospital and subsequently airlifted to a Toronto hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Both parties are from Mapleton Township.

The Wellington County OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) assisted by West Region OPP Reconstructionists continue to investigate the collision.

Concession 8 remains closed between Side Road 12 and Side Road 14 while Hydro crews continue repairs and to restore hydro to the area.
