(RICE LAKE, ON) On Monday, September 3, 2013 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marine Unit members were conducting vessel checks on Rice Lake near Sheep Island when a vessel was found where the occupants had been consuming beer.
The OPP Marine operator observed the 14 foot aluminum rental boat with four occupants that were drinking at approximately 3:30 pm. The three of the four occupants admitted to the officer they were drinking Molson Canadian beer on board and there were empty beer cans in view. A search of the vessel also found a small quantity of marihuana that was disposed of at the scene and the owner was warned regarding possession of a controlled substance.
Vessel passengers Salem HLEIL, age 27, Gajenthe GANESHAMOORTHY, age 25 and Lavanya XAVIER, age 28, all residents of Mississauga, Ontario have been charged under the Liquor Licence Act with consuming liquor in other than licenced premises, residence or private place. The vessel operator was not drinking and the officer seized the remaining beer.
