Drunk Drivers Caught

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – The local detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged 3 people with drinking and driving related offences this past weekend.

On August 23, 2013 in the late evening hours an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP stopped a vehicle in the Janetville area. The female driver had been drinking and as a result a demand was made that she provide a breath sample in an approved roadside screening device. She refused to give a sample and as a result Majesta MONETTE, 37 years of age, of Janetville, was arrested and charged with Fail to provide a Breath Sample under the Criminal Code.

Also on August 23, 2013 just before midnight another officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP was responding to a call in the former Somerville Township when he observed a pickup truck driving erratically through Fenelon Falls. The vehicle was stopped and a roadside screening test was given to the lone male driver. As a result Patrick MCKERRACHER, 43 years of age, of Newmarket was charged with Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content.

On August 24, 2013 in the late evening hours an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP received a call for traffic complainant on Highway 7A. The vehicle was located and stopped in Bethany. That lone male driver had also been drinking and a roadside screening test was given. As a result of the investigation Jeremy MCCLOSKEY, 36 years of age, of Selwyn Township was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation and Exceed 80 Milligrams under the Criminal Code. He was also charged with Driving While Under Suspension, Follow Too Closely, No Currently Validated Permit under the Highway Traffic Act and Breach of Probation Order under the Provincial Offences Act.

All parties were released from custody and are to appear in a Lindsay court at a later date.
