(PERTH COUNTY, ON) Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers worked hard throughout the “Labour Day Long Weekend†trying to keep our roadways safe.
From Friday morning August 30th, until Monday at midnight, September 2nd, officers increased their patrols and visibility significantly on Perth County roads. Every available officer was engaged in traffic enforcement and Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) programs.
24 RIDE programs were conducted throughout the County. One driver was charged with impaired driving. Officers administered 3 other roadside breath tests with one driver in Mitchell registering a blood alcohol concentration between .05 and .08 This driver was issued a 3 day drivers licence suspension.
101 drivers were issued speeding tickets. 8 drivers were handed seatbelt tickets while 2 were charged with operating electronic devices while driving. 12 drivers were charged for hazardous moving violation offences and 10 others received tickets for other Highway Traffic Act offences.
Officers also charged 7 individuals for liquor related offences while 5 people were charged with drug possession.
During the long weekend Perth County Officers were only called to investigate 7 motor vehicle collisions two of which had injured persons. Fortunately the injuries were relatively minor in nature.
Considering the large numbers of vehicles on Perth County roads this weekend, the statistics indicate that the public was able to travel safely.
