NORFOLK COUNTY OPP RESPONDS TO BOATER

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment along with the Canadian Coast Guard responded to the Long Point Inner Bay after receiving a call from a concerned family member.

On Monday, September 16, 2013 at approximately 7:03 p.m., the Canadian Coast Guard and OPP responded to a vessel located on Bluffs Bar, east of Pottahawk Point.

Investigation determined that a 69 year old male from St. Thomsas, Ontario, had been out on the water since Friday, September 13, 2013 in a 16” aluminum boat. A call was received by a concerned family member indicating that the male had fallen into the water. The Canadian Coast Guard arrived on scene where assistance was offered to the male. There were no injuries reported and the male was subsequently taken to the Turkey Point Marina.

While the boat was being towed into the Turkey Point Marina, it subsequently sank due to taking on water.

“Boating is a great activity and the OPP advise that being prepared for a day on the water will increase your safety and enjoyment of boating,” comments Sergeant Jim Millson, Norfolk County OPP Detachment Marine Coordinator.
