September 21, 2013, The Laval (QC) Police Service (LPS) in conjunction with the Regional Investigations Unit of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Sûreté du Québec (SQ), in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) arrested three (3) residents of Quebec yesterday in relation to search warrants relating to armed robberies which took place at financial institutions in Quebec and Ontario.
The suspects targeted the financial institutions by waiting for the bank employees to transfer their tills from the vault to their cashier stations where upon they would break into the bank by breaking the bank window with a sledge hammer to gain entry. Once inside, the suspects would quickly stuff the money into bags before fleeing the scene.
The three (3) accused have been charged with 3 robberies, which occurred between March and September, 2013. The accused committed three of the robberies in Quebec (Two in Laval and one in Vaudreuil and four were committed Ontario. The total value of the robberies amounted to $600,000.
Daniel LOYER, 44-years-old and Sylvain BELANGER, 35-years-old have appeared in court for various charges related to these robberies. Both remain in custody and will be appearing at their bail hearing next week.
The third suspect has been released unconditionally.
The investigations relating to Ontario continue to be investigated by the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and the OPS, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the Greater Sudbury Police Service and the Waterloo Regional Police Service.
