OPP DEPUTY COMMISSIONER HAWKES TO HONOUR AWARD RECIPIENTS AT CEREMONY

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is hosting an annual award ceremony in Thunder Bay on Thursday September 26, 2013 for North West Region OPP employees and community members who are being recognized for various acts and achievements.

The NWR Awards are part of a series of award ceremonies held by the OPP every year to recognize various people in each of its regions. Among those recognized are OPP uniformed and civilian members, as well as community members who have demonstrated outstanding achievement, dedication, perseverance, innovation and an overall commitment to the OPP and the communities they serve. Employees who have reached service milestones are also recognized.

Among the recipients to whom Deputy Commissioner Vince Hawkes will be presenting awards is an OPP officer from Pickle Lake detachment who, along with the Pickle Lake Fire Chief, will be receiving a Commissioner’s Citation for Lifesaving for rescuing a male from a burning building; a civilian from Thunder Bay who will be receiving a Citation for Bravery in relation to pulling a quadriplegic male to safety from a burning vehicle, and three young boys from Dryden who will be receiving a Citation for Lifesaving in relation to saving a young girl’s life.

The media are invited to meet the recipients and to hear some of the stories that earned them a special award at this week’s ceremony.
