SEVERAL OPP OFFICERS IN ORILLIA SEARCH FOR SUSPICIOUS MAN

(ORILLIA, ON) – At approximately 11:20 a.m. this date, the Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a witness who observed a man carrying what she believed to be a long gun. He was observed walking northbound on Albert Street in the City of Orillia.

Several officers from the Orillia Detachment, Central Region Crime Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine attended to the area where the suspicious male was last seen. The Detachment Commander – Inspector Malcolm Quigley was also at the scene.

Officers set up containment in the area as part of the investigation. They searched the neighbourhood before canvassing door to door.

The witness described the gun as a shotgun and a description of the man was obtained.

The male was described as being in his 40’s, slim build, tall with frizzy hair. He was wearing a brown sweatshirt, blue jeans and a blue ball cap.

Schools that were in the vicinity went into Hold and Secure as a precaution.

Police advise they are not aware of any crime having been committed and would like to speak to the person described in this incident.

Officers have now released the containment and have completed the search. The investigation will continue.
