(Elgin County) – Police arrested and charged a 45 year old Rodney, Ontario man with Operating a Motor Vehicle while Over the Legal Limit and several other driving offences after Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers stopped the vehicle for both the driver and passenger failing to wear their Seat Belts.
The incident occurred on September 28, 2013 at approximately 4:37pm while officers were conducting a Fall Seat Belt Campaign initiative at the intersection of Graham Road and Munroe Street in the town of West Lorne, West Elgin, Ontario. Officers observed a pick-up truck pass them after turning westbound onto Munroe Street, both the vehicle driver and passenger were not wearing their seatbelts. The vehicle was stopped without incident and the driver of the truck was found to have been drinking alcohol.
The OPP Fall Seat Belt Campaign runs from September 26, 2013 to October 13, 2013. During this time, officers are focusing on seat belt enforcement and educating road users in an effort to change driving behaviour and save lives.
Police have arrested and charged 45 year old Matthew HIND of Rodney, ON with;
Operating a Motor Vehicle Over 80
Failing to properly wear Seat Belt
Failing to surrender Insurance Card
Failing to surrender permit
The male passenger was also charged with Failing to properly wear a Seat Belt.
HIND is to appear in St.Thomas criminal court on October 15, 2013.
