SPEEDING DRIVERS CHARGED

(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Sunday September 29 2013 at 7:53 pm, an officer from the Upsala Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol on Highway 17 near Dog River Road when the officer observed an east bound Ford Focus travelling at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle was driving in excess of 180 km / hour in a posted 90 km / hour zone.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered the driver was in breach of a Criminal Code Undertaking and the passenger was in breach of a Criminal Code Recognizance.

Jeffrey LOUBERT, 28 years of age, from Burnaby, BC was arrested and charged with Fail to Comply with an Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code and Stunt Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Wael HMAIED, 24 years of age, from Port Coquitlam, BC was arrested and charged with Fail to Comply with a Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code.

Both were held in custody for a video court appearance.

On Monday September 30 2013 at 10:48 pm, a Thunder Bay OPP officer was on patrol on Highway 61 when the officer stopped the driver of a GMC Sierra for driving in excess of 150 km / hour in a posted 90 km / hour zone.

A 19 year old male from Thunder Bay was charged with Stunt Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The driver was also issued a Notice of Suspension for driving in relation to unpaid fines.

On Wednesday, October 2 2013 at 12:55 pm, an Upsala OPP officer stopped a Nissan Maxima for driving in excess of 125 km / hour in a posted 90 km / hour zone.

Upon further investigation, a search of the vehicle resulted in the officer locating 42 packages of syringes and 32 vials which appeared to contain Amphetamine (Speed). The total weight equalled 6 grams. The street value has not yet been determined.

Dave LEGAULT, 27 years of age, from Waterloo, Quebec was arrested and charged with Breach of Probation contrary to the Criminal Code and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

Pascal ASHBY, 27 years of age, from Granby, Quebec was arrested and charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the CDSA.

Marco DUFRESNE, 33 years of age from, Shefford, Quebec was arrested and charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the CDSA.

All were held in custody and remanded to the Thunder Bay District Jail.
