Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charges

(SOUTH PORCUPINE) – The South Porcupine OPP has laid drug related charges against two Sudbury area persons stemming from a routine traffic stop on October 6th at Hwy 101 west of Timmins.

While on patrol, a South Porcupine OPP officer had occasion to interview a motorist at the roadside due to a traffic infraction.

Based on investigative cues observed by the officer, the driver and passenger were found to be in possession of suspected cannabis marijuana controlled substances and arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

As a result of a search under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act , the OPP officer located and seized approximately 36 grams of suspected marijuana, along with other drug paraphernalia.

Eric HAMELIN, 26, of Sudbury and Brianna-Lynn RIDDELL, 23, of Val Caron, have been charged with one count each of Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

The accused persons were released from police custody but must attend Provincial Court in Timmins on December 17th to answer to the charges laid against them
