MAN DROWNS IN LAKE ERIE

(HALDIMAND COUNTY ON) – The Haldimand County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were called to possible man missing in Lake Erie, by the Port Maitland Pier.

At approximately 2:11 p.m. on Tuesday October 8th, 2013, officers were advised that a man in a wheelchair may have gone into Lake Erie near the pier. The two officers searched the shore area around the pier. The Haldimand OPP and Canadian Coast Guard attended the area with vessels (boats) to assist in the search.

The officers located the male in the water and entered the cold lake to assist. The officers immediately administered CPR in attempts to revive the victim. The officers pulled the man to shore and with the assistance of two citizens they lifted him to the shore. Paramedics and the Haldimand County Fire Department arrived at the scene a short time later and assisted the officers. Paramedics transported the male victim to Dunnville War Memorial Hospital.

Unfortunately the male was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
