BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – On October 12, 2013 shortly after 9:00 a.m. officers from the Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of a wrong way vehicle travelling Southbound in the Northbound lanes of Highway 11, south of Gravenhurst.
The OPP responded quickly to the calls for assistance. The northbound lanes of Highway 11 were closed.
Three vehicles travelling northbound who observed the wrong way vehicle coming toward them were involved in a collision while attempting to avoid the wrong way vehicle.
The driver of the wrong way vehicle finally pulled off the roadway after realizing they were going the wrong way. It is unclear where the vehicle had first entered the highway in the wrong direction.
Two adult females as well as one child were transported to hospital with minor injuries.
The wrong way driver was arrested at the scene.
Subsequently 47 year old Zu GONG of North York has been charged with:
Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
GONG is scheduled to attend Bracebridge court on November 26, 2013 to answer to the charges.
