(KENORA, ON) -Kenora Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Provincial Constable Steve JACKO has been awarded the The Terry Ryan Memorial Award for Excellence in Police Services by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Canada. The award recognizes the significant contribution of police services in helping to reduce impaired driving. It is presented annually to recognize exemplary service by a police officer or team in reducing the incidence of impaired driving. This award is presented in memory of Constable Terry Ryan whose life ended tragically in May of 2002 when he was killed in a two-car alcohol-related crash on his way home from a police function in the Durham Region of Ontario.
P/C Jacko is a 23 year veteran of the OPP. He has served the majority of his career in Kenora and the surrounding area. P/C Jacko works regular patrol but spends a great majority of his time dedicated to combating impaired driving in the Kenora area. In 2012, P/C Jacko laid a total of 59 impaired related driving charges. This year, as of September 1, P/C Jacko has laid a total of 42 impaired driving charges. P/C Jacko was recently recognized to be in the top ten of the entire Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) for traffic statistics, and also received the Ontario Provincial Police Regional Commander’s Letter of Recommendation for his exemplary effort and skills with respect to his job. P/C Jacko has invested countless hours to serve the citizens of the City of Kenora. He makes it his priority to keep the city safe, with a strong focus on road safety.
