Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Invokes Mandate – Collision

(HOWICK TWP., ON) – At approximately 12:20 a.m. this morning, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers located the a suspect vehicle on Brussels Line that had failed to stop for police earlier in Bruce County.

Officers activated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the fleeing suspect but the driver failed to stop. Officers terminated their efforts to stop the vehicle after following it for a short period of time.

Officers began patrolling the area where they located the suspect vehicle which had run off the road and come to rest in a corn field. The driver was located at the scene and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The OPP contacted the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and was advised initially they were not going to invoke their mandate. SIU has subsequently elected to invoke their mandate and as such the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications.
