(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On December 5, 2014 at 9:04 pm, the Thunder Bay Provincial Communications Centre (PCC) received a call from a Fort Frances, Ontario residence. Upon receiving the call with the PCC call taker, the phone call was disconnected. Attempts to reconnect with the caller were unsuccessful. Officers were dispatched to the residence.
Officers attended the residence where the call originated and located an adult female who reported to officers she had been assaulted by an adult male. The male had fled the residence prior to police arrival. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region Canine Unit with the assistance of the North West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) searched for the male. He was located by Canine and ERT officers a short time later in the area of Highway 11 near Pitt Road #2 in Fort Frances and taken into police custody.
The accused, who will not be identified to protect the identity of the victim, has been charged with Assault and Fail to Comply with a Court Order contrary to the Criminal Code. He remains in police custody pending a bail hearing in Fort Frances Criminal Court.
