Collision With Salter Truck Leads To Careless Driving Charge

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a 32 year old male from Arthur, Ontario with Careless Driving after he was involved in a collision with an MTO Salter Truck around 11:08 am on January 09, 2015.

At the time of the collision a Tractor Trailer was traveling westbound on Highway 401 west of Blacks Road behind an MTO Salter Truck. While attempting to pass the Salter Truck the Tractor Trailer had to brake suddenly, losing control due to traffic in the passing lane and as a result rear ended the Salter Truck.

The driver of both the tractor trailer and Salter Truck were not injured as a result of the collision.

The Tractor Trailer sustained damages to the diesel fuel tank causing fuel to spill onto Highway 401. Officers are currently still on scene and have closed the Westbound lanes of the 401, awaiting crews to clean up the spill.

Traffic is being re-routed off Highway 401 Westbound at Furnival Road, West Elgin and is directed to follow the EDR back on Highway 401 at Orford Road, Chatham. The westbound lanes are suspected to be reopened by 3:30pm on January 09, 2015.

As a result of the police investigation the driver of the Tractor Trailer has been charged with;

Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
