Off Duty Officer Thwarts Impaired Driver

(ESSEX, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Essex was contacted on April 4, 2015 at approximately 9:20 p.m., by an off duty police officer in Essex who reported that a male was about to drive while impaired by alcohol.

The incident occurred in the 300 block of Talbot Street North in Essex at a local eatery. The off duty officer spoke with the male who became belligerent and unruly.

When officers arrived, the male, age 42 of Kingsville, continued to be uncooperative with police. He was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.

Police would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to alert police if they see someone who is about to drive while being impaired by alcohol. In this particular case, the off duty officer thwarted what could have been a collision, injuries or worse yet, death if this man had been able to get behind the wheel of his vehicle.
