Easter Weekend Traffic Results In Perth County

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – At the conclusion of the 2015 Easter Weekend, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police is happy to report some wonderful local traffic statistic results.

The Easter weekend tends to be a busy time for officers along Perth County roads as motorists often make the first weekend road trip of the year on dry roads. Perth County OPP officers were busy, however they were not responding to collisions or serious motor vehicle incidents.

During this 2015 Easter Long weekend Perth County OPP officers only responded to a total of two crashes. Both of these two crashes involved motor vehicles colliding with deer.

Looking at Perth County OPP collision numbers for the past three years we see that Perth County historically averages 18 collisions per year over the Easter Long Weekend.

Perth County OPP officers made it a point of being visible in high traffic and high collision locations which together with assistance of good weather helped in keeping our collision numbers so low. Officers did issue 166 speeding tickets to drivers who decided to drive too fast on Perth County Roads. This number is a 155% increase in speeding charges over the same period last year, when 65 drivers were presented with a speeding ticket. This year 4 drivers received a distracted driving charge compared to 1 driver last year. Seatbelt charges were down to 12 this year compared to 25 last year. Officers also issued 14 other hazardous moving violations compared to 4 last year.

“I am very pleased with the huge reduction of collisions, meaning there was far less opportunity for the citizens and travellers in Perth County to get injured in a crash this past Easter holiday weekend. It is my hope that these low collision numbers may continue throughout our subsequent long weekends”. Acting Inspector Brad Thompson Interim Perth County Detachment Commander.
