(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) – Another snowmobile season has come to an end in Wellington County. The 2014-15 winter season saw the local Wellington County OPP Detachment snowmobiles cover over 6,500 kilometres of Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trails in the County, exceeding 234 hours of two-officer proactive snowmobile patrols across the vast network of OFSC trails within Wellington County.
Officers also attended various snowmobile events in the County to offer safety tips, clarify the laws and engage in public education, including the Conestoga Lake Ride-Show and the Home and Farm Safety Day in Alma.
Snowmobile safety continues to be a priority in Wellington Country. This season, police stopped nearly 1300 snowmobilers and found only 25 infractions where charges were laid. There were two collisions involving motorized snow vehicles resulting in one operator and one passenger suffering minor injuries.
Wellington County OPP would like to thank those snowmobile operators for committing to safe operating practices which contributed to a successful recreational winter season on the trails in Wellington County.
