(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend, here are some examples:
Apr 10: (from 12noon)
– The Legion in Hastings reported that someone had attempted to break in to a delivery entrance sometime overnight. No entry was gained. Investigation ongoing
– Police responded to a residential alarm at a Colborne home (12:45pm). A door was found adjar apparently blown open by the wind.
– 911 call from a Hamilton Twp home caused by resident programming emergency number in her phone
– An officer at a Brighton traffic stop requested assistance from other officers when the male driver who is known to suffer from mental health issues became belligerent and uncooperative. He was charged with several equipment and document related offences (11:30am)
– Resident in Port Hope called police about a suspicious vehicle in his neighbour’s driveway. Officers determined that it was the homeowner’s daughter.
– 911 call from an outdoor education centre in Brighton. Youths playing with phone during a meeting (8:20pm)
– 911 call from an intoxicated Seymour Twp resident who was unsatisfied with a pizza delivery order (8:45pm). She was cautioned by officers for misuse of 911
– Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Brighton home. Both parties had been drinking and apparently arguing over one of them ‘talking too much’ when a quiet evening was preferred by the other partner. Officers counselled the couple who agreed to sleep in separate rooms then discuss their issues in the morning when sober. No charges resulted
– 27 yr old local man was found to be walking in downtown Colborne consuming alcohol. Liquor was seized and he was charged accordingly. (10pm)
Apr 11:
– Family dispute in Castleton between a son and his deceased father’s common law wife over property taken from the home. Officers provided advice. (1:30am)
– Report of a 21 yr old passenger attempting to jump out of a moving car on Hwy 28. Peterborough and Northumberland officers located the car, removed the intoxicated man and took him to his father’s home for the night (3:30am)
– Report of a suicidal mother who had left her 2 yr old child at a Brighton home with her short term boyfriend. He contacted police unsure what to do with the child and to report his girlfriend’s state of mind. The female returned to the home while officers were speaking to the caller. She was apprehended and taken to a nearby hospital for a mental health assessment. Her child was taken by officers to the Brighton detachment where CAS was contacted. A family member was eventually contacted and agreed to look after the child for the night. CAS to follow up with the mother to ensure proper care and a safe environment is being provided in the home. The investigation is ongoing.
– Police responded to a 911 call at a Brighton home where a domestic disturbance was reported. As a result of the investigation, a 24 yr old male was arrested and charged with assault. Names withheld. (11:20am)
– A second call to a Castleton home regarding property dispute over deceased father’s estate (11:30am). Officers stood by while property was removed.
– A 29 yr old male known to have mental health issues attended the Campbellford detachment and complained that an officer had implanted metal probes in his brain damaging his liver further stating that he was hearing microwaves as an explanation for the cotton balls in his ears. No immediate safety concerns were noted by the officers and he was allowed to continue with his day.
– A 25 yr old Pickering driver was clocked 158 km/h eastbound Hwy 401 Brighton area (9pm). He was found to be a suspended driver for unpaid fines and a family support judgement and had no insurance on his 2010 Mercedes. The car was impounded for 7 days and he was charged accordingly.
– Domestic dispute in Hastings resulting in a 28 yr old male self-harming. He was taken by family members to a nearby hospital for treatment. Minor injuries not resulting in charges. Alcohol was a factor. (10:30pm)
Apr 12:
– Report of an intoxicated male on Kent St Campbellford (12:10am). Officers located the 34 yr old local man and arrested him for being intoxicated in a public place. He was held until sober and charged accordingly.
– 2014 Mercedes clocked at 188 km/h on Hwy 401 Colborne (1am). A 20 yr old Mississauga man was charged accordingly, licence suspended for 7 days, car impounded same period of time
– Report of a domestic dispute (7am) in Campbellford. The male called police complaining that his girlfriend wouldn’t let him go to sleep. Officers determined that she had spent the night in police custody for being intoxicated and upon her release wanted to talk to her boyfriend about the night’s events. He had been drinking all night and was only interested in sleeping. Both agreed to discuss things after they got some sleep. No charges resulted.
– Parents of a youth reported their daughter being in an abusive relationship. After investigation, officers arrested and charged a 16 yr old youth with Assault X2, uttering death threats X2 and choking. He was released into the care of his parents with certain conditions until his court appearance. Names withheld.
– Report of illegal dumping on Woolacott Ln Port Hope. Investigation ongoing by Northumberland County officials
– Citizen attended Campbellford detachment for advice on a barking dog in Hastings. He was referred to the municipal bylaw office.
– Report of a gunshot heard coming from a Campbellford home (1:15pm). Officers blocked Booth St N to traffic, engaged the occupants who exited when directed to do so by police. All residents were interviewed, the home was searched but no firearms were located. The source of the noise was not determined.
– A citizen reported seeing a fish hook in a swan’s beak in Brighton, swan was not located by officers
– A westbound Mazda was clocked at 182 km/h on Hwy 401 in the Brighton area (11pm). The 32 yr old Ajax driver was charged with stunt driving – excessive speed and also under the Liquor Licence Act for having open liquor in the vehicle which his passenger admitted to consuming.
Northumberland OPP officers also conducted five RIDE programs, investigated six motor vehicle collisions and 20 traffic related complaints.
