(LAKESHORE, ON) – On April 18, 2015 at approximately 3:00 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers in Lakeshore conducted a traffic initiative in the 11000 block of Essex County Road 42.
A total of 8 Provincial Offences Notices (PON) were issued for speeding during the blitz.
With the more enjoyable weather, the OPP is reminding the motoring public that speeding, following too closely, making unsafe lane changes and failing to yield right-of-way are all forms of aggressive driving that place all road users at risk.
The OPP continues to target these behaviours on our area roadways as part of the Provincial Traffic Safety Program (PTSP), in an effort to save lives.
“Everyone has the right to be safe on our roads and speed limits are posted as a means of keeping the roads safe for everyone who uses them. Our officers will continue to enforce these Highway Traffic Act laws with the hopes of keeping everyone safer in our communities.” says Essex County OPP Detachment Commander Glenn MILLER.
Along with a monetary fine, those caught speeding can expect the following:
3 points for exceeding the speed limit by 16 to 29 km/hour
4 points for exceeding the speed limit by 30 to 49 km/hour
6 points for exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/hour or more
