(DESERONTO, ON)- On Friday, May 8, 2015 officers with an OPP Marine Unit recovered the bodies of two missing Tyendinaga Mohawk men after receiving separate information from boaters.
At 2:32 p.m. the OPP Marine Unit received a VHF Marine Radio Alert from a boater reporting one of the men in the water half way between the Skyway Bridge and Lighthouse Island (west of the Skyway Bridge).
After recovering the first man and transporting him to shore a second boater approached the OPP Marine Unit at 3:15 p.m. advising of finding another body in the same location.
The men were located approximately 50 feet apart in the middle channel of the Bay of Quinte.
The men were identified as 21 year-old Tyler MARACLE and 26 year-old Matthew FAIRMAN. The men had been reported missing since April 26th after launching their 14 foot aluminum fishing boat near the bridge to go fishing.
The Tyendinaga Police Service, The Ontario Provincial Police, and The Tyendinaga Mohawk Fire Department would like to thank all of the community members and members of the public for their support and assistance in the search for the missing men.
The investigation will continue with the Ontario Coroner’s Office.
