(Prince Edward County, ON)— On May 12, 2015 at 9:00am the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU) with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine and officers from the Prince Edward County detachment executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a Spring Street residence in Picton, ON.
Police seized a quantity of cannabis marihuana, cannabis resin, related drug paraphernalia and a loaded handgun.
A 33-year old woman, Jamie BOWERS and a 35-year old man, both from Picton are both charged with the following offences:
Production of a Substance (x2), contrary to Section 7(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Possession of a Substance Included in Schedule II, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition, contrary to Section 95(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Possession of Weapon Obtained by Crime, contrary to Section 96(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
BOWERS was later released from police custody on a promise to appear and officer in charge undertaking with a court date of June 3, 2015 in the Ontario Court of Justice, Picton.
The male accused was held in police custody awaiting a bail hearing today in the Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville.
