Bear Cub Sighting West Of City

(Cavan-Monaghan Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called just after 6:30am this morning about a bear cub wandering on the shoulder of the road. The bear was sighted on Highway 7 between Sherbrooke Street West and Parkhill Road West.

The OPP reminds residents that bears should be treated with caution and respect. Female bears with cubs can be particularly aggressive if they feel the cubs are being threatened. If you encounter a bear and your personal safety is threatened, you are urged to call 911.

To keep wandering bears off your property, it is important to remove all food sources:

Put garbage out only on the morning of collection

Remove bird feeders

Feed your pets inside

Clear your barbeque including the grease trap
