Renfrew OPP Weekly News

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 236 calls for service during the previous week.

Domestic Disputes

Renfrew OPP officers investigated 11 domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with 2 counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. No other criminal offences occurred.

Over 80mgs Driving Charge

On Monday May 25 at 10:37am OPP officers responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 17 near Scheel Drive. One vehicle had stopped for traffic in the construction zone and was rear-ended by another driver. Officers attended and found the driver of the vehicle who struck the other had been drinking. The male driver failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was arrested. While being searched, a white powdery substance was located and seized. The male was transported to Arnprior detachment for breath tests. As a result of the investigation Justin BUJOLD 29 of Arnprior was charged with driving over 80mgs, and possession of schedule 1 substance-cocaine. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on June 24, 2015. He was also issued provincial offence notices for Careless driving, failing to surrender permit for vehicle, and driving a motor vehicle with open alcohol. Provincial Constable Helen Paterson led the investigation.

Thefts

Arrest warrants are being obtained for two males involved in stealing merchandise from No Frills in Renfrew. The theft occurred on Wednesday May 24 and after store security reviewed video footage observing the theft and identifying the males. A 46-yr-old from Campbell’s Bay QUE, and a 38-yr-old of Shawville QUE, are wanted for theft under $5,000. Provincial Constable Philip Holmes is leading the investigation.

The battery from a boat was stolen between May 18-25 while it was parked on Richard’s Lane in Arnprior. Provincial Constable Walid Kandar is investigating.

An IPhone was stolen when a customer set it down at Giant Tiger to pay for her purchases and inadvertently left it behind. Video footage inside the store showed the next customer pick up the phone and leaves the store with it. The theft happened on Sunday May 24 and OPP officers began investigating on May 25. Officers located the male in Renfrew and he initially denied taking the phone, until he learned there was video footage. The phone was returned to the victim and she declined pursuing charges.

Between Friday May 22 and Sunday May 24 eight chairs were stolen from a property on Bonnechere St S in Renfrew. Provincial Constable Sarah Turcotte is investigating.

Charges are pending after a female shopper concealed several items in a stroller and made no attempt to pay for them when paying for some items. The female left the store and the theft was reported to police. The theft happened on Wednesday May 28 at Shoppers Drug Mart in Arnprior. Provincial Constable Jodi Burns is investigating.

On Thursday May 28 at approx. 1:20am OPP officers responded to a reported theft from the Antrim Truck stop. A male had reported stole and items and left on foot. Officers located the male in Arnprior. The male admitted to stealing an item from Metro and was arrested. While searching the male the stolen item from the Antrim truck stop was located, as well the jacket the male was wearing still had the security tag on it, and the male admitted to stealing that also. William RENWICK 43, of Arnprior was charged with 2 counts of theft under $5,000 and one charge of possession of stolen property. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on June 24. Drug Possession

On Wednesday May 27 at approx. 2:02am officers responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a business on Highway 17 in Cobden. Upon arrival a vehicle was located in the rear of the business with two males inside. The business was checked and had not been entered. The officers observed marihuana inside the vehicle and arrested both males. A further search of the vehicle located a quantity of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. The driver claimed sole possession of all drugs and the passenger was released from custody. William MCVICAR 20, of Nova Scotia was charged with possession of marihuana and cocaine, both schedule 1 drugs of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on June 24. Provincial Constable Ryan Besner investigated.
