(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls over the weekend, here are some examples:
June 5:
– Unlicensed driver stopped for speeding on Hwy 401 Colborne area, car towed from highway, the 34 yr old Puslinch (ON) man was charged accordingly
– A gold Caravan was stopped on Dale Rd Hamilton Twp. The 27 yr old driver from Belleville was found to have a suspended licence and also registered a ‘warn’ on a roadside test resulting in a 3 day licence suspension and a charge of driving while under suspension. The vehicle was towed from the scene. (1am)
– Officers assisted a stranded female motorist on Hwy 401 Cobourg area (2:30am)
– An elderly Colborne resident called 911 when attempting to call her neighbour. Officers attended and confirmed she was ok.
– An elderly Brighton motorist dialed 911 in error when trying to connect Bluetooth in his car. Officers located him in a nearby parking lot and confirmed he was ok
– Police responded to a domestic dispute in Seymour Twp where a couple were arguing ‘about life’. One partner took a set of keys to a car and wouldn’t allow the other to leave with the children. No criminal charges resulted and the couple spent the night apart.
– A Percy Twp resident reported being the victim of a ‘computer scam’. The fraudster claimed he was from a company named ‘Ubertech’. The resident gave his credit card information and lost $1,152. Investigation ongoing
– A Port Hope family contacted police when their 15 yr old son threatened self-harm. The youth agreed to attend the hospital to get some help with his mental health issues
June 6:
– A Brighton homeowner attended the Brighton detachment at 1am to complain about an ongoing dispute with his neighbour over a fence.
– Several detachment officers assisted with the Hwy 401 lane closures in Port Hope area re: fatal tractor trailer collision (see full release) (1:24am)
– A resident of a senior’s complex in Campbellford dialed 911 to complain of ‘people in her house playing music’. Officers confirmed with staff at the facility that the senior was having hallucinations. (1:30am)
– A Brighton senior dialed 911 accidentally while watching TV
– A motorist on Hwy 401 called 911 twice to complain about the lane closures in the Port Hope area.
– Detachment officers, OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Brighton Fire Dep’t located an injured 19 yr old motocross rider in the Brighton Wildlife Sanctuary. ERT and firefighters carried the male out of a secluded wooded area to EMS who transported the rider to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries
June 7:
– Police and Trent Hills Fire Dep’t responded to a vehicle fire in the intersection of Langford Rd/Honey Line in Percy Twp at 1:22am. Both occupants had exited the car and were not injured. Mechanical issues was the suspected cause
– Police responded to a report of a truck that had driven into a hydro pole on Oliphant Rd in Brighton at 2:24am. The 31 yr old female driver from Brighton declined medical attention and was subsequently charged with Careless Driving.
– A Seymour Twp resident contacted police to complain about her neighbour putting rocks on her property. Officers advised the owner to contact the Municipality for advice
– A Brighton OPP employee located a wandering dementia sufferer (and her dog) at a Brighton senior’s complex. Officers attended and returned her to her residence several blocks away. The woman’s Alzheimer Society case-worker was advised for follow up with the family
– Police responded to a domestic dispute at a Percy Twp home where a couple were arguing about finances. No criminal charges resulted and the couple were separated for the night
– Officers mediated a dispute between a Hamilton Twp father who was having child custody issues with his ex-girlfriend. No criminal charges resulted, advice was given
– A Brisbin Rd (Hamilton Twp) resident reported his 2010 white Toyota Tundra stolen from his driveway sometime between 10:30pm Sunday June 7th and 3:30am June 8th. The truck has a CB antenna on the roof and a cammo deer sticker on the rear window with Ontario Licence plates: # AF57833. Investigation ongoing
Northumberland OPP also conducted nine RIDE programs, investigated 11 motor vehicle collisions and 28 traffic related complaints.
