(SUDBURY, ON)- On June 14, 2015 at 12:39 a.m., officers from the Sudbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a hit and run collision on Highway 17, in the Township of Nairn. Investigation revealed that an eastbound pick-up truck had collided with another eastbound passenger car.
As a result of the investigation, police were able to locate the involved pickup truck at the intersection of Big Nickel Mine Road and Elm Street, in the City of Greater Sudbury. Police initiated a traffic stop and it was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol.
Ryan IRELAND, 31 years of age from Sudbury, was arrested and charged with the following:
1. Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle, contrary to the Criminal Code
2. Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol, contrary to the Criminal Code
3. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Criminal Code
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on July 15, 2015 to answer to his charges.
The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
