ALERT: New Hydro One Scam

(Prince Edward County, ON)— On June 29, 2015 at 8:11pm the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward County detachment received a report of a fraud. The incident took place earlier in the day during regular business hours. A business located on County Road 1, in the Ward of Hallowell was approached by a woman posing as a Hydro One employee. The suspect was requesting personal account and credit information from the complainant. The suspect threatened to turn off the complainant’s electricity if they did not forward the information.

The suspect is described as a woman in her 40’s, medium build, dark hair pulled back, wearing jeans, a hydro construction vest or t-shirt and a white hydro helmet. The suspect was also driving a white truck with what appeared to be a Hydro One logo on the driver side door.

The OPP investigation confirmed that Hydro One do not canvass asking for personal information.
