(Kemptville, ON.) – Between July 13th and July 19th, the Kemptville Office of North Grenville Ontario Provincial Police investigated 89 general occurrences: 22 Kemptville, 50 Municipality of North Grenville, 9 Village of Merrickville – Wolford and 8 on Highway 416.
On the evening of July 14th, police received a complaint of a possible impaired driver northbound on Highway 416. A short time later, the black Chrysler 200 was located on Water Street in Oxford Mills. The investigation resulted in a search of the vehicle and the seizure of cocaine, marijuana and open liquor. Shane Michael Binks, age 26 of Ottawa was charged with possession of marijuana – under 30 grams, possession of cocaine, careless driving and driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor. The passenger, Daphne Hamelin, age 19 of Ottawa was charged with possession of marijuana – under 30 grams and possession of cocaine.
On the evening of July 18th, police were conducting a R.I.D.E. program at Highway 416 and County Road 43. A Dodge Caliber approached the R.I.D.E. and the officer could detect a smell of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. The driver registered a “fail” on the roadside screening device and was arrested and transported to Kemptville OPP detachment for an intoxilyzer test. Donald George Bartlett, age 48 of Kemptville was charged with driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 mgs of alcohol.
Sometime during the evening of July 18th and July 19th, culprit(s) broke into an unlocked vehicle parked at a residence on Bridge Street and stole personal documents and cash. A second unlocked vehicle was entered on Joseph Street and a purse was stolen. Police are once again reminding the public to keep their vehicles locked at all times and their valuables in a safe place.
