(Deseronto, ON)- On July 19th at 1:25 a.m. officers with the Napanee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a R.I.D.E. program at Mill Street and Thomas Street in the Town of Deseronto.
Officers checked a vehicle and noticed open alcohol within the vehicle and could detect the odour of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath.
The driver of the vehicle refused to identify himself, was placed under arrest for obstructing police and subsequently given a demand for a roadside alcohol screening test.
As officers attempted to remove the driver from the vehicle the male resisted and became combative.
The male driver, 46 year-old Ralph DOREEN of Tyendinaga First Nation, faces the following charges:
Refusing to provide a breath sample, contrary to section 254(2) Criminal Code
Obstruct police, contrary to section 129(a) C.C.
Assault police (two counts), contrary to section 270(1) (a) C.C.
Drive while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
DOREEN was held in custody for a bail hearing and appears tomorrow afternoon in Provincial Court in Napanee.
