Fire Destroys Two Barns

(SOUTH-WEST OXFORD TOWNSHIP, ON.) – On July 16, 2015 shortly before 8:30 p.m., Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to assist at an abandoned barn fire on Brownsville Road just west of Tillsonburg in South-West Oxford Township.

Officers arrived on scene along with members of the South-West Oxford Fire Department to find the abandoned barn fully engulfed in flames. The building was completely destroyed by fire.

On July 27, 2015 at approximately 6:22 p.m. fire crews from South-West Oxford, Tillsonburg and Bayham Township, along with police were called to the same address for a second fire located in a smaller barn on the property.

On July 29, 2015 at approximately 4:10 a.m. fire crews and police were called to the same address for another fire located in the same smaller barn as the second fire. The building was completely destroyed by fire.

The Ontario Fire Marshal was contacted but did not attend the scene.

The cause of the fires is being treated as suspicious, and is under investigation.

The OPP is asking residents to be vigilant in recognizing suspicious people or vehicles that may be sitting in neighbour’s driveways/laneways when they are not home or vehicles that are travelling aimlessly up and down roads. The public should try to get descriptions, licence plate numbers and direction of travel and report this immediately to their local police service. It is important for this information to get to police when the suspects may still be in the area.
