(SUDBURY, ON) – On August 9th, 2015 at 3:50 p.m., officers from the Sudbury and Espanola Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint regarding a westbound Ford pick-up truck travelling at a high rate of speed, passing vehicles on the shoulder and forcing on-coming traffic off the road, on Highway 17 (4-lanes), City of Greater Sudbury.
The vehicle travelled for approximately 35 kilometers until it was stopped by police on Highway 17, by Jacklin Road in Baldwin Township.
The male driver became assaultive when he was arrested and officers had to deploy a conducted energy weapon to gain effective control of him. The male did not suffer any injuries.
Charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Stunt Driving and Fail to Stop for Police is Edward Paul DEAN, age 52 of Chelmsford, ON.
His vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on September 1, 2015.
