(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend, here are some examples:
Aug 28:
– A couple looking up at the night sky in Hamilton Twp contacted police at 12:07am when they began arguing over when to leave. They were separated for the night. No charges resulted.
– Officers apprehended a 33 yr old man on a Hwy 401 overpass in Brighton for his own safety. He was transported to an area hospital to receive help with his mental health issues.
– A 22 yr old man was arrested for breaching two probation orders after a family disturbance was reported at a Port Hope home.
– An officer responding to a noise complaint on Archer Rd in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp at 11:50pm charged an 18 yr old female driver from Hamilton Twp with having open liquor in her car
– A noise complaint was received in Campbellford at 11:52pm. Officers discovered two occupants in the process of mopping their floors. No further action taken.
Aug 29:
– A 24 yr old Scarborough man was charged in Seymour Twp for fishing without a licence
– A 64 yr old Seymour Twp man was charged with driving without a licence and having no insurance after he was stopped on County Rd 30 in Trent Hills operating a grey Jeep TY
– Police assisted the park warden at Ferris Provincial Park in evicting a campsite with intoxicated and unruly campers.
– Police responded to an alarm at a Colborne area business at 10:34pm. Officers found the building to be secure, unknown what caused the alarm
Aug 30:
– Police responded to a neighbour dispute in Colborne at 12:01am. When speaking with one of the involved tenants, officers discovered a loaded .22cal rifle lying on the night stand of a bedroom. The 36 yr old woman was arrested and charged with the following offences:
-Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
-Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
-Breach of Firearm Regulation – store firearm or restricted weapon
Rosanna BONAIUTO of Colborne was released and is scheduled to appear at
the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 14, 2015.
– A Hamilton Twp man text his girlfriend indicating a wish to self-harm. Officers located him at home unharmed stating that he just wanted the attention. He was left in the care of his family.
– A Bonnett Rd Cramahe Twp resident reported damage to his light posts, flower pots and trailer sometime since 12noon yesterday. Investigation ongoing
– At 7:39pm police received a complaint of a jogger almost being struck by a red pickup truck on Scriver Rd in Brighton. The jogger had to jump in the ditch to avoid being hit. A witness followed the truck to a residence and contacted police. Officers spoke to the driver and determined he had been drinking. He subsequently failed a roadside test, was arrested and taken to the Brighton detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, William GRANT age 32 of Brighton is charged with having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 23, 2015.
Northumberland OPP also conducted five RIDE programs, investigated nine motor vehicle collisions and 43 traffic related complaints.
As the summer winds down, the OPP would like to remind riders of off-road vehicles to exercise caution and follow basic safety rules.
• Always wear a comfortable, well-fitted and fastened approved helmet
• Never drink and ride
• Take a safety course and get to know your equipment
• Stay in control and ride within your skill level
• Know your responsibilities wherever you ride
• Let someone know your trip or activity plans
