PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY FROM THIEVES

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) – The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind residents about the importance of protecting and securing your home and cottage.

Most residential break-ins actually occur during the day, when the majority of people are not at home. There are some simple ways to help ensure your residence will be secure from criminals when you are not home and they include:

• Ensure outside lights work and consider a motion sensor

• Lock doors and windows even if you are going out for a short time

• Keep garage doors and entry doors locked

• Lock your vehicles at all times

• Keep valuables in the home in secure locations such as a safe

• Record serial numbers and take photos of valuables

• Trees, shrubs and fencing create hiding spots for criminals, keep your landscaping groomed.

• If you are going to be away have a neighbour or friend cut your grass or shovel your driveway

• And watch for suspicious people or vehicles in your neighbourhood.
